About Bevin

I am a practising veterinarian, experienced in companion animal shelter medicine and private practice. I also act as an animal welfare expert on a variety of different committees, where I provide guidance on animal welfare issues and assist with implementing national animal welfare legislation and regulations.

I graduated with a BVSc from Onderstepoort (University of Pretoria) in 2017, and obtained an MSc in International Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law through the University of Edinburgh in 2022. I am currently the chairperson of the South African Veterinary Association’s Animal Ethics & Welfare Committee.

My MSc exposed me to a wide variety of animal welfare scenarios and equipped me to think critically about different welfare challenges, to find the best possible solutions. I have a particular interest in the One Health and One Welfare fields. Animal Ethos Consulting Services was founded in early 2024 to further my keen interest in animals and their welfare, and strengthen animal welfare science collaborations between South and Southern Africa and the rest of the world.

Apart from my passion for the welfare of all animals, I also enjoy travelling, reading, watercolour painting, and horse riding. I live in Johannesburg with my husband and two cats.
